Speedy PMR and Leisure-Radio Design-ins are now possible

CML’s latest range of PMR and Leisure Radio baseband ICs, the CMX881, CMX882 and CMX883, can now be speedily designed-in with the availability of a custom evaluation, demonstration and investigation kit, the EV8810.

Supplied as a printed circuit board running via a parallel port from a Windows™ based PC, this evaluation kit allows total access to all of the target device’s on-chip functions such as read, write and programming of registers.

All chip functions, including signal modes, frequencies, gains and routing can be addressed, investigated and adjusted using the custom graphical interface running on the PC. Evaluation settings may also be saved for reloading as and when required.

Controlled by an on-board re-programmable PIC µController, the EV8810 kit is supplied with evaluation firmware, evaluation software and PIC reprogramming software. This unique method, developed by CML, will allow fast access via the parallel interface (a function available to facilitate stand-alone operation and the investigation of custom designs). Using the companion user-manual and the relevant IC’s technical datasheet, the designer can rapidly understand and manipulate the features and functions of either product.

The PCB is supplied with a socketed target IC, with many links and test points on the board to enable signal, control and level monitoring and measurement. An on-board audio power amplifier is provided for headphone and loudspeaker output via a jack socket. Tx voice-audio performance can be investigated via line input or an on-board ‘electret’ type microphone.
