NAPLES, Fla. – Norma Miller has kept us smiling for decades, and there is no doubt she will keep us laughing all night as she takes center stage to auction herself off to raise money for the Project HELP Crisis Center at the 10th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza this Saturday.

Miller began her career as a pioneer of swing and jazz dance as a member of the legendary Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers a the Savoy back in 1934. She quickly built a career of dance and comedy appearing with the Marx Brothers’ movie "A Day at the Races" (1937), and from 1937 to 1940 Miller performed with Ethel Waters.

She worked with comedian Redd Foxx for many years and joined him on the 1970's television series Sanford and Son as both a stand-up comic and choreographer, where she is remembered as the airline stewardess who offered "Coffee, tea or ME?"

Now one lucky auction bidder will have the chance to have dinner with Miller at the restaurant of their choice. Miller will perform this Saturday, and will be sure to keep the crowd laughing all night as she takes the microphone as auctioneer having fun with the audience as she auctions herself off.

It all takes place beginning at 7 p.m. at the Longstreth-Goldberg Art Gallery, 5640 Taylor Road where you can sample delectable chocolate creations by the best chefs of Naples. The night also includes hors d’oeuvres, champagne, wine, a live and silent auction, as well as music and socializing.

Proceeds benefit Project HELP, a local community crisis center that provides free, 24-hour emergency crisis and trauma response along with a 24-hour hotline and referral service. Help is provided to victims of crimes, including rape, domestic violence, assault and battery, or those who survive loved ones who die of suicide, car crashes, accidents, and murder.

"We help the teenager disfigured as a result of a drunk driver, the children whose mommy is dead and daddy is spending his life in prison for her murder, the shocked parents of a 16-year-old deceased as the result of a suicide, the 3-year-old who was molested by her mother’s boyfriend, the 1- and 18-year-old siblings who are victims of domestic violence, and so many others. We strive to help people in crisis regain stability and strength to continue their journey through life," said Karen L. Brothers, president of Project HELP.

Some of the items up for bid in the live auction include:

• Dinner with Norma Miller at the restaurant of your choice
• "Ophelia’s Heart II, a famed Jamali print
• Original works of art from Sir Walter Koenigstein, Connie Bransilver, Tiite Baquero, and Stefan Andreev
• The William Noll Trio will perform in the highest bidder’s own home
• A 6-hour "environmental adventure" with Dr. Ellen Prager for 10 people
• A private party for 100 people at the home of William Noll

The event is hosted by Peg Goldberg Longstreth at her gallery because she was a victim of a violent crime and knows how important and vital the services of Project HELP are to our community.

This will be a fun-filled night you will long remember. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 649-1404 or e-mail projecthelpinc@juno.com, and all donations are tax deductible.
