DETROIT, MI – Detroit Chassis LLC, an automotive manufacturing company of niche vehicles and RV chassis, announced that they have been selected for inclusion in the 2005 Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) - Inc Magazine Inner City 100, which was released Friday, April 22, 2005. Detroit Chassis ranked #45 on the list of the fastest growing inner-city companies in America. Company leaders were recognized at an awards dinner in Boston, MA last week.

The list, a ranking of 100 of the fastest-growing businesses in inner city areas around the country, reveals that virtually all of these companies are profitable and planning to expand their workforces. The 2005 Inner City 100 showed an astounding Cumulative Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 63 percent and an average annual growth of 827 percent between 1999 and 2003, compared with an average of 716 percent for all companies appearing on the Inner City 100 since its inception in 1999. This year’s list was culled from more than 7,000 nominations in 150 cities. These companies have created almost 9,600 new jobs in the past five years.

Michael and Carlton Guthrie are the founders and senior executives of Detroit Chassis LLC, a Tier 1 automotive supplier which assembles motor home chassis and other products at a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant on Detroit’s east side. Detroit Chassis has successfully made the case for, high-quality value added operations at an inner city UAW plant through rigorous application of lean manufacturing principles. The company employs approximately 200 associates at its 218,000 square-foot facility. The plant is ISO-9001 and QS-9000 registered. Its manufacturing capabilities include rolling chassis assembly; vehicle systems sub-assembly; total vehicle assembly and a variety of complex sub-assemblies.

Detroit Chassis is a subsidiary of Spectra LMP LLC. Spectra also owns Magnys LLC, a provider of process and manufacturing engineering services, Forward Vision LLC, a provider of computer simulation and modeling services, and TruPac Logistics, a provider of manufacturing support services such as inventory management, repacking and kitting.

"We strive to develop high value added associates who support World Champion performance," said Michael Guthrie, President and CEO, Detroit Chassis. "Those companies whose strategy is to use low cost labor to develop low cost products and services are destined for mediocrity at best."

Detroit Chassis is an active corporate citizen in its east-side neighborhood, employing many local residents and having established working partnerships with Charles S. Kettering High School, Davis Aerospace Technical High School, Ulysses S. Grant Elementary/Middle and Drusilla Farwell Middle School. Detroit Chassis associates volunteer as advisory board members, Junior Achievement consultants, and mentors. They also participate in Career Day activities and provide financial support.

The ICIC reported that the record number of nominations received this year was largely due to the Inner City 100 National Program Sponsor Merrill Lynch and nominating

partners such as U.S. Conference of Mayors, New America Alliance, National Women’s Business Council, and National Association of Manufacturers.

"We have learned from the Inner City 100 CEOs and employees that success is more certain when you reverse thinking from addressing deficits in the community to building upon its assets," said Dorothy A. Terrell, president and CEO of ICIC. "Our partnership with Merrill Lynch will significantly enhance ICIC's capacity to find and celebrate the impact of the company’s success on the neighborhoods where its business is conducted."
