The Maynard in Grindleford has retained its two rosettes following recent confirmation by the leading motoring and travel organisation, The AA. Paul Downing, director of The Maynard, says the staff at The Maynard have been pulling together for the past two years to achieve and retain the two AA rosettes accolade.

"The way the kitchen and front of house staff have coped with all the recent changes at The Maynard has been nothing short of magnificent. The food served in our restaurant, bar, at weddings and all functions had been progressively improving up to the point where we were awarded our first and second rosettes in 2007 and 2008. The fact that we have retained both rosettes in 2009 is testament to a great team effort; I’m delighted for all the staff, but especially for our local Head Chef, Ben Hickinson. Ben has risen to the challenge and now has a solid team in place delivering consistently high quality food across all areas of the hotel and restaurant."

The Maynard is one of only a few restaurants in the whole of South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire to have two AA rosettes. The Maynard underwent a major hotel and restaurant refurbishment in 2007/2008, transforming the Victorian building from country chintz to contemporary chic. The Maynard’s food offering has been brought in line with the more modern feel of the décor, with locally sourced organic produced used wherever possible.

Paul will not rest on its laurels and will endeavour to ensure that The Maynard continues to move in a positive direction: "Getting rosettes is difficult enough, but keeping them can be an even more difficult task. You can’t take your foot off the gas for a moment and you’re only as good as your last meal, your last guest experience. That is something that all hoteliers and restaurateurs will identify with, and it keeps us on your toes at all times."
