Silicon Designs, Inc. announces a new triaxial accelerometer that meets the market’s needs for a rugged, easy-to use tool for measuring shock and vibration. This universal module goes against the industry norm of specialization and instead will work in a wide variety of applications, saving valuable time and money for customers.

Silicon Designs, Inc. (SDI) just released its new 2460 triaxial capacitive accelerometer, a major improvement on existing technology. This new model has an Anodized Aluminum Case with an integrated amplifier, full-scale ranges from 2 to 400g’s, -40 to +85°C operating temperature ranges, and weighs in at only 30 grams. It has a differential output that can drive up to 15 meters of cable, it can accept +8 to +32V DC power, and it responds to DC and AC acceleration. The 2460 really stands out from competing products economically by costing over 10% less while delivering better performance under an enormous range of applications.

Most companies design accelerometers for one or two purposes. The 2460 is unusual in that it was designed to be multifunctional across a broad range of applications. For example in an aerospace application, one 2460 could be used to monitor very low frequency flutter vibration or high frequency engine vibration.

Mike Whiteman, the Application Engineer who spearheaded the 2460’s initial design requirements, was very excited to provide customers with this high degree of usefulness in a competitively priced package. "This product has so many possible uses. It really simplifies the purchasing aspect as well as the design, integration, and learning curve for the engineers." Given its universal nature, the 2460 has been very warmly received at a time when both private sector companies and government agencies are looking to cut costs and increase efficiency.

The new 2460 is in production and available now. Custom specifications and quantity discounts are available. All of SDI’s products are made in the USA. For more information on the 2460 and SDI’s complete product catalog, visit www.silicondesigns.com.

About Silicon Designs, Inc.:
Since its inception in 1983, SDI’s core competency has always been accelerometers and the philosophy of "Make it better, stronger, smaller, and less expensive" is maintained to this day. SDI received the prestigious Tibbetts Award in 1997 from the Small Business Administration and was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 1999. SDI specializes in commercial-grade accelerometers such as those used in automobile crash detection and stability testing, identifying unusual vibrations in race cars and airplane engines, and monitoring structural integrity in bridges, hydroelectric power generators, and wind farm turbines. SDI’s miniature accelerometer technology is currently used by the US Military, NASA, and in the automotive, transportation, and agricultural industries.
