Technology Wales 2005, the largest IT event in Wales, will introduce a "Hot Shots Gallery" where organisations will showcase their latest innovations to win the public’s votes. The event will take place at the Cardiff International Arena, on 13th May.

The audience will select their favourite technology via the very same wireless voting keypads used in the ITV game show, "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?" The two finalists will be given a second chance to present their products in depth and will be invited to the Awards Gala Dinner.

The five companies that will rise to the challenge are:
net-wrk Ltd
i-Vision (UK) Ltd
Pin-Hole Technologies Ltd
BOSS Computing Ltd and
Miura Design.

Cardiff-based net-wrk Limited is a leading provider of IT network infrastructure solutions and services for South Wales and the South West. Its goal is to deliver network solutions that are cost-effective, easy to manage and flexible enough to meet a company’s changing business and technical requirements.

Chepstow-based i-Vision (UK) Ltd, a manufacturing company specialising in cutting-edge LED (light-emitting diode) products, will be talking about the uses and applications of high brightness LED products and their role in energy conservation.

LED products require low power as most of them can be operated with battery power supplies. Most of the power supplied to an LED is converted into radiation in the desired form, with minimal heat production and when properly installed, an LED can be expected to have a long-life cycle.

Among i-Vision’s latest products is the i-Vision Lumos range, which offers creative lighting design and installation for a wide variety of entertainment, leisure and commercial applications. The company has recently won the ‘Special Projects’ category of the 2005 Lighting Design Awards, for its innovative design and installation of an LED lighting scheme on the new set of GMTV.

Cardiff-based Pin-Hole Technologies Ltd. is an innovative digital mapping and spatial data management service. The company will be outlining the nature of its digital mapping activities and the benefits they provide to its clients by providing a GIS (geographic information system) and digital mapping outsourcing service.

Pin-Hole will be illustrating how its GIS and mapping services can be applied to more applications than you may think, with examples from upcoming and previous projects.

Chris Jenkins, director, Pin-Hole Technologies Ltd, explains: "A lot of people think that the GIS is normally a tool for people dealing with geography or geology. But what I don’t think lot of people realise is this can be applied to more regular businesses like insurance companies, healthcare, banks, etc. People need to be a bit more educated and know what the actual procedures are."

Cardiff-based BOSS Computing Limited, a consultancy company and web solution provider, will showcase its latest product, ClickstoMortar. This easy-to-use application offers total control over all aspects of advertising, managing and maintaining properties on the internet. It also provides a fully-customised website with a powerful property engine that drives the website content.

Dr. Huseyn Guliyev, technical director, BOSS Computing, has been shortlisted for the TW05 Welsh Technologist of the Year award.

Finally, Cowbridge-based Miura Design Ltd is a web design, development and promotion company that delivers professional web development services to both private and public sector organisations.

Trisha Howard, managing director of TW05 organisers TH Events Ltd, says: "We are delighted to introduce this new "Hot Shots Gallery." It will allow organisations to showcase their new technology, while the audience will have the chance to discover new solutions to real business challenges and nominate their favourites to win. Interactivity is the key word of this year’s event."
