DTCM To Support Staging Of Men's Beach Volleyball World Tour

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced its active support for the staging of the final leg of the Swatch FIVB World Tour, a world ranking Men's Beach Volleyball tournament scheduled to take place in the emirate from November 14 to 18, 2005.

"The department has played a vital role in promoting Dubai’s reputation as the undisputed "sports capital of the Middle East" around the world," said DTCM Manager Events, Marwan bin Beyat. "Events such as the Dubai Open Beach Volleyball World Tour help to position the emirate as an exciting sports destination," he said.

Mr. bin Beyat added that DTCM acknowledges the important role sports sponsorship has played, and the influence it exerts, in projecting Dubai’s image as a lively international sports centre. "We have worked closely with event organisers and sponsors of major sports events to maximise their promotional value both within the region and internationally thereby directly contributing to the success of these events," he observed.

DTCM’s support to major sports events in Dubai and globally in the past has included: sponsorship of media centres, hosting of major media missions to secure international exposure, extensive promotion of the emirate as a golfing destination through co-ordinated promotions at international travel trade and consumer fairs, sponsorship of horse racing across Europe as well as VIP hospitality chalets at major sports events worldwide.

"We seek to utilize Dubai’s sporting attractions to encourage increased corporate interest in the city by creating heightened awareness in the international sports media," Mr. bin Beyat stressed.

DTCM’s commitment to supporting the international promotion of sport in Dubai is set to continue, through co-operation with UAE-based Abjad Sports & Events who will be managing the Dubai tournament on behalf of the FIVB and in collaboration with the UAE Volleyball Association.

Abjad’s Managing Director, Jean-Paul Boutibou thanked DTCM for their support and said, "We are delighted that DTCM have agreed to support the event and this will help greatly in promoting the event worldwide through DTCM’s extensive network of overseas offices."

Dubai has been chosen as the location for staging the final leg of the Swatch FIVB World Tour because of its world-class infrastructure that has enabled this dynamic city to attract the best international sporting events.

The Dubai tournament has the potential to be a key event on the international beach volleyball circuit. The Dubai event is the final leg on the world tour and world-ranking points are awarded to determine the winning team for the year.

Dubai is fast acquiring a global reputation for combining adventure, fun and sports with sand and year-round sunshine to offer a very cosmopolitan atmosphere for organisers of sports events. The emirate’s first-class sporting facilities and climactic conditions make it an ideal sports destination.
