Lifting Solutions winches in major Offshore contract

The four Offshore ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) winches in total represent a contract value in the region of £500,000, and were produced to tight timescales for particular deployments by a new client. The customer came to Lifting Solutions on referral, having heard that the company were well equipped to respond, and design and fabricate a tailored solution to meet DNV 2.7.1 and 2.7.3 requirements.

Mark Stephens, sales and marketing director for Lifting Solutions, said: "The engineering expertise involved in designing and fabricating this type of winch is critical. The winch is responsible for sending and retrieving the ROV that can be worth millions of dollars, so it’s vitally important that the winch is up to the job.

"It’s encouraging that we are getting known within the industry for our capability in delivering total solutions. In this case, the client showed us an artist’s impression and said ‘can you make one of those’? Once we got down to technical specifications, etc, it was of course a lot more involved…but basically that was the starting point.

"The winch needed to be a proven and tested design, conforming to DNV Standards. There are other companies who can fabricate such items, but thankfully not many that can take it from conceptual stage right through to delivery and test, and do all that in-house under one roof. The added bonus for customers in the credit crunch is that being based in the north of England means that our prices are often extremely competitive compared to other manufacturers in the EU. All round, the service worked so well for this particular customer, that we ended up supplying four winches."
