Winners of Daventry School Art Competition Announced

The winners of an art competition which brought a splash of colour to the most prominent building site in Daventry have been announced.
The winners of the Daventry iCon poster competition received their awards after entering their artwork in a competition to decorate the safety hoardings around the perimeter of the under construction iCon. Located in Eastern Way, on the edge of the town centre, the iCon will be a national centre of excellence for businesses in the emerging market of sustainable construction.
A selection of the winners will now see their work displayed on the hoardings, while all of them received a certificate, an iPod Shuffle and an invitation to the launch of the centre.

• Kaitlin Board
• Katy Lee
• Brodie Danks

The awards were presented by West Northamptonshire Development Corporation Deputy Chairman John Weir, Councillor Chris Millar, and Chairman of iCon East Midlands David Walker .

Mr Weir said: "We would like to thank all the children who took part in the iCon school arts competition. We received 57 entries and were really impressed by the quality and creativity of the pictures. I think these children have a very bright future. The future also looks good for Daventry itself. WNDC is working together with Daventry District Council and our other partners to invest millions of pounds in improvements to the town. As well as landmark buildings like the iCon, this includes a new and improved library as well as more and better shops."

The competition, A Bright Future For Daventry, was judged by a panel of representatives from Daventry District Council, West Northamptonshire Development Corporation, East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and the University of Northampton.The iCon building is expected to be completed by December 2010. Funding for the project was obtained from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC). A consortium led by the University of Northampton will run the iCon once it is operational
