Vaughan Waller, head of membership services at Learning Light, a non-profit Centre of Excellence which highlights and promotes best practice in the use of learning technologies in the workplace, has become only the second person ever to be awarded honorary life membership of the eLearning Network (eLN), the UK’s foremost professional association for users and developers of e-learning.

Waller, whose seven year term as chairman of the eLN ended in the summer, received the award at the eLN’s latest conference – on instructional design – which was held in London on 29th September.

During Waller’s time as chairman, the eLN’s public profile had risen sufficiently for it to become an influential member of the Moore Group, a body comprising professional institutes and associations including the Institute of IT Training and the British Learning Association, which advises the Government on e-learning-related matters. Waller also played a major part in the advent of the E-Learning Awards, presented by E-Learning Age magazine in association with the eLN.

"It has been an honour to serve the eLN - and I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship with the eLN in an honorary capacity," said Waller.

"Vaughan has put in a great deal of work on behalf of the eLN over the years," said Phil Green, acting chairman of the eLN. "We’re delighted to bestow on him the Network’s highest honour."
