Sheraton Imperial General Manager Named Lodging Operator Of The Year

Jay Mahan, President of Davidson and Jones Hotels, has announced that Michael J. Martino, general manager of the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, has been named the 2010 Lodging Operator of the Year. The award was given by the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (NCRLA), an organization that serves as the voice of the restaurant and lodging industries in North Carolina. Martino received the award at the NCRLA’s first Taste of North Carolina event on Feb. 8 at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club. More information about the Sheraton Imperial can be found at

"It’s an honor to receive this award from the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association," said Martino. "Being named Lodging Operator of the Year is a great affirmation that my efforts to provide positive leadership at the Sheraton Imperial have been successful."

-Martino has been with the Sheraton Imperial for almost 20 years.

-Martino has been recognized by Jay Mahan, president of Davidson and Jones Hotels, for his effective leadership during the economic crisis as he took steps to conserve capital and reduce costs.

-Martino serves on the advisory board of the East Carolina University Hospitality department.

-Martino has provided internships and culinary arts exchange programs through local school and colleges and hosted the 2009 NCRLA scholarship event.

-Martino serves on the Board of Trustees for the NC Hospitality Education Foundation.

-In 2010 Martino celebrated his 20 anniversary as General Manager of the Sheraton Imperial.
