Published: Tue Mar 23 2010

Social networking site Twitter.com recently celebrated its fourth anniversary and has taken Las Vegas by storm connecting micro-bloggers around the world for a good cause.

The Las Vegas social media community will join people in hundreds of cities around the world to participate in a Twestival (Twitter festival), a global charity fundraising event Thursday, March 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Caramel Bar and Lounge at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino located at 3600 S. Las Vegas Blvd. The world will come together offline to rally around the important cause of Education by hosting local events to have fun and raise money and awareness for Concern Worldwide, a nonprofit organization supporting 72 million children in the world who don’t have the opportunity to go to school.

The global event will raise money through donations, raffle prizes and sponsorships. All tweeps (Twitter users), bloggers, on and offline enthusiasts and the public are invited to enjoy the camaraderie and face to face conversations at Caramel Bar and Lounge. Cost for the event is $20 donation per person and includes two complimentary Tweetinis, a slightly modified version of the blue martini. In addition, raffle tickets will be on sale for $5 per ticket or $20 for five tickets for chances to win prizes.

"Twestival is organized 100 percent by volunteers, and 100 percent of the event proceeds will go directly to Concern Worldwide," said Manya Susoev, Las Vegas Twestival Organizer. "The first Twestival was held on Feb. 12, 2009, with 202 cities participating to support Charity Water raising more than $250,000. The global and local communities embraced this effective and groundbreaking fundraising format," said Susoev.

On March 25, 2010, cities around the world are participating in global Twestival events including Las Vegas, London, Dublin, Boston, Seattle, Barcelona, Honolulu, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Hong Kong and many more. The proceeds from each Twestival will go directly to Concern Worldwide.

The Twestival events have local sponsors and global partnerships to ensure all money raised goes to the selected charity. Global partnerships include Amiando.com, PayPal and GoToMeeting.
