Coconut Creek, FL, June 6, 2005-About 1000 walkers joined together recently to fight child abuse by participating in the 2nd Annual 5K Walk for Kids in Distress Saturday, May 21st. The event raised more than $100,000 for Kids In Distress, a private, nonprofit agency dedicated to the preservation of the family, the prevention of child abuse, and the care and treatment of children and their families.

Participants in the event, a 2.8-mile walk at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, were asked to raise at least $100. Additionally, nearly 50 corporate teams took part in the walk, including representatives from Community Care, a PRC employee initiative that supports local charities and corporate citizenship within the South Florida community. PRC Community Care volunteers raised over $9,500 in donations and a team of 30 PRC employees participated in the walk.

"I am overwhelmed at the generosity of our PRC employees," said David Wylie, PRC’s Communications Manager & Community Care Coordinator. "Our employees have raised over $23,000 in the last two years for this worthy cause." Wylie noted that most of the PRC employees came all the way from South Dade to walk behind the Community Care banner.

For more than 25 years, Kids In Distress has had a demonstrated record of restoring abused and neglected children back to health through a well-integrated system of care that includes partnerships with community experts to meet the complex needs of children and their families, as well as a full continuum of care that includes therapeutic, shelter and group home care, and prevention, foster and adoption services. Last year alone, Kids In Distress provided assistance to nearly 5,000 children and their families.
