The funding, which has been allocated to Clare County Council for distribution to the local community and voluntary forum over the coming weeks, forms part of a national expenditure package of €1.175 million announced by the Department for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Welcoming the funding announcement Minister Killeen said that local community and voluntary organisation participation and input was important to the development and implementation of effective and inclusive local authority policy.

He added: "The Clare Community Forum facilitates the involvement of community and voluntary organisations in local authority decision-making. The Forum nominates members onto various local government structures such as the Clare County Development Boards and the Council’s various Strategic Policy Committees. The Forum is also actively involved in providing training and support for people involved in voluntary activity."

"The combined efforts of Community and Voluntary groups across County Clare have helped ensure that local strategies are responsive to the need of the communities. The Clare Community Forum provides an excellent opportunity to harness the collective talents and skills of local people to better the local communities, which is particularly important in these challenging economic times", Minister Killeen concluded.

The funding announced today will be allocated to the Clare Community Forum over the coming weeks. In addition to this financial support, Clare County Council is also actively involved in supporting the work of the Forum and its member organisations.
