The Museum Store Association is pleased to honor Phil Zuckerman, owner and president of Applewood Books, with the MSA 2010 Service Award. Laura Murphy, past president of MSA, presented Phil with the Award at the 2010 MSA Retail Conference & Expo in Austin in April.

Phil’s involvement and participation in MSA over the last 15 years has been extraordinary. He has been an MSA Exhibitor Affiliate since 1995 and has supported MSA in many ways throughout the years. Applewood Books has exhibited at the MSA Expo since 1997 and Phil has been an Expo Passport Sponsor for 10 years, as well as a contributor to the Sam Greenberg Scholarship fund. Phil has attended countless MSA chapter meetings and has hosted meetings at his office building – always with the standing offer, time and time again, to return.

"When thinking of our MSA vendors, certain adjectives come easily to mind: dedicated, helpful, enthusiastic. But to describe Phil Zuckerman, more than that comes to mind," says Laura. "Words like passionate, entrepreneurial and energetic also come to mind."

Applewood Books has had an impact on the book business of many MSA Museum Members by offering a great list of hard-to-find, out-of-print books on America’s past.

"Phil has enlightened us with his knowledge of the publishing business – introducing many of us to print-on-demand, how it works and its value to the museum industry," says Laura. "Phil has visited many of our institutions to assist us in publishing out-of-print books from our collections – an important activity to our institutions' missions and to help us retain the uniqueness of our museum stores."
