The Museum Store Association is pleased to honor Lee Werhan, of the Phoenix Art Museum, with the MSA 2010 Merit Award. MSA’s outgoing President Meta Devine presented Lee with the Award at the 2010 MSA Retail Conference & Expo in Austin in April.
"Lee’s attention to detail and his relentless pursuit of great and informative merchandising are examples for all of us in cultural commerce," says Meta. "A true merchant, Lee would excel in any branch of retail – but we (and the Phoenix Art Museum) are fortunate that he has chosen MSA as his natural home."
The retail sales director of the Phoenix Art Museum Store, Lee has been a member of MSA since 1993. Through the years he has supported MSA in many ways. His work on the Nominating Committee, as an MSA chapter officer from 1996 to 1999, and as the chair of the Sam Greenberg Scholarship Committee speaks to his concern for the education of others in the profession – and their continued growth in business skills.
"Lee firmly espouses the importance of passing on the knowledge that he has garnered over his career in cultural commerce," says Meta. "‘Giving back’ is one of the most important decisions any of us can make – it seems a very natural and compelling choice for Lee."
