Charlie Monk To Be Honored With CRB, INC.® President’s Award

Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc.® (CRB) announced that "The Mayor of Music Row," CRB Board Director Emeritus, Charlie Monk, will be this year’s recipient of the CRB President’s Award. The award will be presented at the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Nashville Convention Center.

CRB President, R.J. Curtis said, Charlie is a true Nashville treasure when it comes to the Country Radio Broadcasters. He has been an active participant for over 38 years when one considers the pre-planning that went into the first seminar. His care and constant concern for the event and its participants make this award very deserving for him."

The President’s Award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the marketing, production, growth and development of the Country Radio Seminar and the multiple services that CRB provides to Country Radio and music communities. There are no limitations on the recipient of the award except that they cannot be a current member of the Board or Agenda Committee of the CRB. However, this year, the CRB Board has made an exception to honor Monk.

As one of the original founders of CRS, Charlie Monk is the only person to remain involved with the seminar from its inception to this date. He has produced many of the CRB’s music events over the years, and is well known for his "let us pray" monologue roasting industry luminaries, which opens the CRS New Faces Show. Monk’s radio career began at age 15 at WGEA, Geneva, AL. He moved to the Nashville area in 1968 to work at WMTS, Murfreesboro, TN and joined the staff of ASCAP two years later. After working at CBS Songs, he formed a publishing company, Monk Family Music, in 1983. In addition to running his publishing company, he hosts a daily show on Sirius Satellite Radio.


Previous President’s Award honorees include Larry Daniels (2005), Bruce Hinton (2004), Frank Mull (2003), Erica Farber (2002), Tom McEntee (2001), Gaylon Christie (2000), Mike Oatman (1999) and Chuck Chellman (1998).
