Juggy D 'Akheer'

Taken from his 2004 debut album ‘Juggy D’ – which produced the desi club smashes ‘Sohniye’ and ‘Billo’ – ‘Akheer’ was written by the man himself and reflects the thoughts of a young British Asian lad growing up in multicultural Britain. The track sees Juggy experimenting with a deeper, more progressive sound adding a new dimension to his music.

Produced by Mentor and inspired by traditional Indian folk music, hip hop and ambient, the track is a perfect example of Juggy’s diversity as an artist and shows exactly why ‘Juggy D’ was such a landmark British Asian album.

The album – which made the Top 20 Best Seller list in HMV and was the first by a Punjabi artist to make it into the Top 75 national charts - marked out 2004 as a breakthrough year for both Juggy and the British Asian music scene as a whole.

2004 was the year Juggy became the first ever Punjabi artist to perform live on CD:UK, Top of the Pops and MTV Base; he started co-hosting a weekly show on London’s Kiss100 radio station; he toured the USA and performed to thousands of fans in Canada, Australia, India, Kenya & Europe; he featured on tracks with Britney Spears, Mary J Blige, Timbaland, Ricky Martin & American-Chinese rapper Jin (from the Ruff Ryders – the same stable as DMX and Eve).

Now, in 2005 - just back from filming his first role in a Bollywood movie (the forthcoming "KYA KOOL HAI HUM" which also stars Rishi Rich, Veronica and R&B star Jay Sean) - Juggy is set to consolidate his position as one of the UK’s most important Asian-music artists.

‘Akheer’ is out on February 28th 2005 via 2point9 Records

Check out the video on Zee Music, B4U, Channel U and other channels. ‘Juggy D’ will be available in HMV, Virgin and all good national and independent record stores.
