A web-based Company specialising in helping UK residents to buy property in Malta, has welcomed news by the Maltese Government that it has identified a site for a new golf course.

The Malta Government is hoping to attract around 30,000 golfers a year to the island, which will boost tourism and property prices.

Press reports indicate that a site covering about 112 hectares has been identified at the northern end of Malta, near to a new 5 star hotel development and within reach of the island’s main sandy beaches.

A spokesman for www.maltabuyproperty said,

‘This is very welcome news. A debate over sites for a new golf course has been raging for some time on Malta.

The Malta Government has stated that this will not affect existing agricultural land - which should minimise controversy and delays.

Heavy investment in new upmarket hotels has not been matched todate sufficiently by an increase in appropriate facilities which can be used to attract inward investment and tourism.

It is a small island and there is competition over land use for different purposes.

If this development does go ahead, it should boost tourism and lift property prices at the higher end of the market.

We note that the Government is carrying out a feasibility study prior to a formal
call for interest from potential developers. This underlines that they are serious about the potential for this site.

We look forward to further news on this development.’

The golf course project is being progressed by the Malta Tourist Authority.

This news comes soon after announcements of a further showcase artificial beach on Malta at St Paul’s Bay in the North, to complement the first of its kind at St George’s Bay near Sliema further south.
