Exile and Patronage - Conference and Forum on academici

From: academici Limited
Published: Wed Jul 06 2005

Prominent people in politics, organisations and the churches (as for example Bishop George Bell, 1883-1958) have been of vital support for these refugees. To promote research into various forms of patronage of refugees and to allow scholars, refugees and the wider public to discuss and link up with each other, scholars from the University of Birmingham have created with http://www.academici.ac a new interdisciplinary and interactive community for "Exile and Patronage": http://www.academici.com/net/patronage/.

This community is linked to the forthcoming conference on "Exile and Patronage", to be held at the University of Birmingham, Barber Institute of Fine Arts (11-13 July 2005) and accompanied by an art exhibition on "Art and Migration". Patrons of this conference are: The Archbishop of Canterbury, The Archbishop of Westminster, Lord Claus Moser, Lord George Weidenfeld, George Steiner and The Endellion String Quartet.
Though the community focuses principally on émigrés of the Nazi Period, it will also include a wider discussion on exile, migration and refugees today.
