Northampton Korfball Club cry out for new players

A NEW Korfball club – the first in the county – has made an appeal for new players to join its ranks.

Northampton Banshees has started training ready for entry into the Milton Keynes Korfball League but new members are needed – of any age, sex or ability!

Natasha Sole from the club said: "We need players! Old, young, beginners, pros - we're not fussy!"

"The first training session is free, with following training sessions at £3.50. It’s open to everyone over 18. Come along and bring some friends."

She said Korfball is an exciting and completely unique mixed team sport played by teams of four men and four women.

The aim is to score goals in the 3.5m high baskets, using similar skills to basketball and handball.

It is a non-contact sport, easy to learn, helps you get fit, very sociable and great fun.

Unlike many established sports which expect you to be a certain standard before joining the club, the Northampton Banshees actively welcome all players from absolute beginners upwards.

Mrs Sole said Korfball was:
• Great if you want to play a sport all winter, that is indoors – no freezing or getting wet on an outdoor pitch, or having matches cancelled due to weather!
• Great if you want to play a competitive sport but one with a lower risk of injury than sports like football or rugby, or if you have previously had injuries.
• Great if you like variety, because all players get to both attack and defend, rather than being stuck in a single playing position.

The club has just started training and meets at the Moulton Sports Complex, on Mondays, from 8.30pm to 10pm.

The club has received funding and support from the Northamptonshire Community Foundation, Northamptonshire Sport, Grassroots Grants and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation,
