On October 22nd, 2010 over 300 participants and their buffalo are scheduled to compete in the city’s traditional buffalo races. The strongest and fastest buffalo are ridden bareback for prize money and glory, providing an enjoyable spectacle for all visitors, both local and foreign. With such a unique yearly tradition, Pattaya will accommodate spectators from around the world, who are expected to visit the city to watch the races.

During the event, in addition to the traditional procession there will also be a buffalo beauty contest. This yearly tradition has grown in size and participation significantly over the years, with this year’s celebration looking to be the greatest in its history.

With just one day dedicated to this event, the committee organising the event expects an increase in participation and available seating may well be limited throughout the event.

Lek Boonlert, Head of Marketing at had this to say about the event: "The annual buffalo races in Chonburi are a long-standing tradition, with a great history of intense races and high turnout. The area is a popular tourist destination all year round, and during special one day events such as this one, vacancies at local hotels quickly fill up."

With such a high demand for nearby hotel rooms, holidaymakers and other visitors are urged to plan ahead and book in advance with one of the many hotels Pattaya has to offer.
