BPNI two week course to empower all women to exclusive breastfeed

BPNI always believe that breastfeeding is the right of all mothers, infants & children. BPNI works towards enhancing the nutrition, health and development of infants and young children through courses and programmes to increase national and state commitments, education of public and health care workers.
To improve optimal infant and young child feeding practices, BPNI has organized an outreach Two Week Training Course on Breastfeeding (21st November, 2010 to 4th December 2010) at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, U.P., India. The team of trainers is Dr. Felicity Savage, Honorary Senior Lecturer Institue of Child Health London, Ms. Sandra Lang, Midwife and Infant Feeding Specialist, Mrs. Carol Williams, Public Health Nutritionist and Dr. K.P. Kushwaha, Prof. & Head, Department of Pediatrics, BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, India.

Aim of the course is to enhance the health personnel’s capacity for taking an active role in protecting, promoting and facilitating optimal infant feeding practices, wherever they work. This course is ideal for pediatricians, midwifery lecturers, breastfeeding coordinators nutritionists, and public obstetrician’s health specialists. Participants are invited from all Asian countries.

This is a comprehensive in-depth study programme examining the evidence for best practice recommendations and the skills required to support their realization in practice. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology of lactation, composition of breastmilk and infant formula, immunology, influences of birth practices, maternal health and nutrition, breast conditions, counseling skills, problem solving, planning and Implementing IYCF Programmes, the Special Care Baby, infant Feeding and Emergencies, complementary feeding and International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and BFHI.

Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) was founded on 3rd Dec., 1991 at Wardha, Maharashtra. BPNI is a registered, independent, non-profit, national organization that works towards protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding of infants & young children. BPNI serves the Regional Coordinating Office of International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) for Asia Pacific, which is a network of groups working to promote optimal infant and young child nutrition in over 43 countries. BPNI is also the Regional Focal Point, South Asia for World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) for the celebration of the first week of August as the World Breastfeeding Week. It is also a member of the UNICEF NGO Committee.
