Last year’s service was attended by thousands of Christians who came to the church to pay their respects and this year a similar attendance is expected. The service in 2010 will take place in the evening of 24th December and will run for approximately two hours under the guidance of Rev Abraham Alex Tanuseputa.

The event will see Christians coming together in prayer and commemorating the birth of Jesus during the evening. The service will include hymns and prayers along with the lighting of candles as people reflect on readings from the Bible. Scenes from the nativity will also be held at the service remembering the day when Christ was born, including the visit from the shepherds and the three wise men.

The Reverend Tanuseputa will be reflecting on events from the last year and giving the congregation messages for the future as from the previous year when he told followers to not take notice of the predictions concerning disasters occurring in the future.

People looking to attend the mass while staying in Surabaya hotels can find the Bethany church on Nginden Semolo street in the city.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: "The mass sees thousands of people coming to the church and many people will be coming back to Surabaya for the holiday season. Hotels are likely to be at full occupancy so visitors will want to book well in advance of arriving in the city."
