Laos National Day is a celebration of the proletariat’s victory against the monarchy and the king abdicated his thrown and abolished the monarchy in 1975. The country then became People’s Republic and the day is now celebrated as a national holiday.

Around the country, and especially in the capital, residents will be celebrating the holiday with a series of parades, parties and speeches. Visitors can expect to see traditional dances and musicians performing local songs dressed in national costumes.

National flags will line the streets on 2nd December 2010 and people use the time to spend with family and friends. The government will put on a number of events for spectators including brightly coloured parades and activities representing Laos culture and values.

Vientiane has a population of over 720,000 and this will increase over the holiday as people arrive in the city to join the celebrations. People searching for a hotel Vientiane may find the task more difficult as numbers start to rise.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "The holiday sees celebrations taking place up and down the country. Hotels will be much busier as people travel to be with relatives and visitors are therefore advised to book hotels online to avoid being left without a place to stay."
