Dubai - Former Formula One star, Jean Alesi, and a leading contender in the current German Touring Car Championship (DTM), will visit Dubai from September 4 to 7, 2005.

His visit to the city coincides with the Middle East Launch of the IWC Ingenieur AMG watch, the result of an alliance between the Swiss-based International Watch Company and Mercedes-AMG, the world’s leading manufacturer of luxury high performance vehicles.

"Our strategic partnership with Mercedes-AMG finds its first visible expressions in an AMG edition within the Ingenieur product line that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and a limited edition Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 AMG ‘IWC Ingenieur’," said IWC Brand Manager, Gianfranco D’Attis.

Kai Schlickum, Regional Sales Manager, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes Car Group, Dubai added: "Alesi is the perfect ambassador for the IWC and AMG partnership. He is a highly popular and winning driver in the DTM series where he has made his mark with the Mercedes AMG team."

In a 12-year Formula One career, Alesi contested a record 202 Grand Prix races and won his only Grand Prix in Canada in 1995. Alesi is one of four ex-Formula One drivers contesting the DTM championship including former World Champion Mika Hakkinen, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Alan McNish.

The DTM series provides fast and spectacular racing for production type cars and is one of the biggest and closest-fought championships in Europe.

An average of 81,250 spectators have attended each of the six 2005 DTM races while an average 2.05 million people have watched on television, an increase of more than 30 percent over last year. Outside Germany, DTM can be watched in 36 countries including the Middle East.
