British Airways has launched its new double daily flight to Stockholm from London City Airport. The airline was able to add the new service after taken up options for two new Embraer E-190 jets, one year after the first aircraft in the new fleet went into service.

BA CityFlyer, the wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways, originally placed firm orders for six Embraer 170 and five Embraer 190SR efficiency jets, known as E-jets, with options on three further 98-seat Embraer 190s.

Peter Simpson, BA CityFlyer managing director said: "We are delighted to announce the conversion of these two options, which will increase our fleet size by almost 20 per cent at London City Airport. Customer feedback on the new fleet has been fantastic, particularly with the additional space and two-by-two seating. The successful fleet introduction and customer reaction to the E-Jets has given us the confidence to expand so soon after the initial order."

The two additional aircraft will enable British Airways to expand its route network from the Docklands airport with new flights to Stockholm Arlanda from January 10 2011.

Luke Hayhoe, BA CityFlyer commercial manager, said: "We were always hopeful of taking up options for the larger Embraer 190s and are delighted to confirm this. This does of course present opportunities for us to further expand our London City schedule. The success of our recently launched Copenhagen service and customer requests made the decision on Stockholm an exciting choice. We will announce further new services in the coming months."

British Airways offers a selection of hand picked 3 to 5-star hotels to compliment holidays in Stockholm. Customers can stay at the centrally located, eco-labelled 4-star Scandic Norra Bantorget or enjoy 19th century elegance at the small, intimate 4-star Stureplan. Don’t have an i-Pad yet? The hotel offers them for rent at an additional charge. Customers can also stay in one of Sweden's leading hotels and join the ranks of royalty, heads of state and Nobel laureates at the 5-star InterContinental Grand Hotel Stockholm.

British Airways flies to over 150 destinations in 75 countries. The airline has 240 aircraft in service in their fleet; this includes 49 Boeing 747’s and 46 Boeing 777’s. The average age of the fleet is 12.4 years (longhaul 13.9 years, shorthaul 10.9 years).
