Thirty-three percent of consumers said that pet accidents are the worst thing to hit US home floors, beating out such traditional things as dirt and mud (30%) and food (12%), according to a floor care survey released by Holloway House, a leading manufacturer of floor care products. The survey was compiled via an online survey house and resulted in 1,000 respondents.
Coincidentally, 65% of those surveyed owned either a dog or cat and an equal amount (65%) have endured the hassle of indoor pet accidents. And, because many interactions between humans and their pets take place on the floor, the survey found that more than 33% frequently played with their pets on their home floors.
"The Holloway House Floor Care Survey was developed to explore consumers’ attitudes towards floor care," according to Steven Eck, Chief Marketing Officer, Holloway House. "With nearly 50 years of experience in the floor care business, we understand that consumers have strong feelings about their floors and we therefore looked at this survey as an exploration into the consumer mindset."

Dancing with the Stars on Your Floors
It seems that pets were not the only things to get high scores: When asked what celebrity they would most like to dance with on their floors, almost 25% chose Brad Pitt with Will Smith coming in second (13%) and Halle Berry third (11%).

Let’s Play on the Floors
The survey showed that floor activities range from occasionally playing games (37%), and entertaining friends on the floors (36%), to exercising (34%), playing with children (27%) and eating on the floors (17%).
Although the most common cause of scuffed floors is shoes (41%), moving furniture (30%), pets (19%) and children’s activities (4%) also stressed America’s floors.
The Desire for Shiny Floors
While 65% ranked having a shiny floor as being extremely important, 46%
Indicated that they cleaned their floors weekly and 17% on a monthly basis.

What Type of Floors?
Of those surveyed, many had a combination of floor types including:
• 79% of respondents had hardwood floors
• 24% tile
• 20% laminate
• 17% vinyl
• 10% stone and/or marble

"Maintaining your floors and keeping them clean and shiny is something that most Americans go to great lengths to achieve. We hope that this survey has provided some interesting and light-hearted insight into this often time-consuming chore," added Mr. Eck.
