DirectRooms.com – Patron saints of Bohol are remembered with elaborate feasts participates in 27 Apr

DirectRooms.com announces that the island of Bohol in the Philippines is going to be staging a number of vibrant fiestas to pay respect to the island’s patron saints that will feature the best local dishes in an extravagant feast.

Visitors travelling to the island towards the end of April should make sure to stop off at Corella which will be hosting celebrations for its own patron saint, Our Lady of the Village or known locally as Nuestra Senora del Villar. The Corella Fiesta is the primary event of the year for the town’s people and preparations will have been going on months in advance to make sure the party is a success.

During the event on 27th April 2011 there’s plenty of live music with the familiar sound of the tuba coming from every corner of the town and this is mixed with dancing through the streets and the odd beer or two. A highlight of the festival though is the feast where people freely share food and sit down to partake in the local delicacy of lechon baboy. Lechon is pig that’s been slow roasted to give it a succulent flavour and visitors can try many other local dishes that are freshly prepared for the party.

As the fiesta is also about family many people make their way back for the festival and this causes many Bohol hotels to be fully booked with returning relatives.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is one of the busiest times of the year and hotels are often booked out months in advance so visitors are advised to make preparations in plenty of time."
