On July 30th through August 2nd, nine Delphian School volleyball players attended the Long Beach volleyball camp. They participated in nine hours of volleyball each day, instructed by players and coaches under the direction of Long Beach State’s head volleyball coach, Brian Gimmillaro. Gimmillaro has won the NCAA National Championship three times at Long Beach. The Delphian School assistant volleyball coach April Ott also participated in the camp and attended daily coach meetings with Brian Gimmillaro.

This was the fifth consecutive year that students from The Delphian School have attended this camp. It has helped the girls gear up for their season starting in September in the West Valley League. The camp covers techniques in all of the basic skills: passing, setting, serving, hitting and defense. There are live demonstrations in these skills done by some of the Long Beach State players.

Head Coach John Kertchem is looking forward to a new season with some returning players and some new ones. Assistant coach April Ott had this to say about the girls’ progress at the camp: "I saw a lot of improvement in the girls’ basic skills. They especially improved in their serving and hitting. Some of the girls are freshman, so it was a big accomplishment for them to be able to play with the seniors."

The Delphian School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering college preparatory, English-as-a-Second-Language and summer programs for elementary through high school students. The Delphian School is licensed to use Applied Scholastics(TM) educational services (
