DirectRooms.com – Join the celebrations for knowledge and wisdom in Kuta on 23 April 2011

Published: Tue Mar 15 2011

Saraswati Day is being held on 23rd April 2011 and takes place to honour the Hindu goddess Saraswati, who is the goddess of knowledge, music, the arts and wisdom. During the day scenes around Kuta will see universities and schools paying respect to the goddess by gathering students in their finest ceremonial outfits to pray and ask for success in exams and their continuing education.

As part of the ceremonies text books and education material are piled on top of each other and then presented with flowers and fruit in front of statues of the goddess.

Almost all schools in Bali can be seen with an image of Saraswati who is often portrayed with four arms carrying the tools for learning and music, which include a guitar and books. Visitors checked into Kuta Beach resorts on the day won’t see many people reading or writing however, as people often refrain from such acts as a way of remembering the lessons already learnt.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This special day is a popular time with Hindus and Kuta and Bali see an increase in visitors compared to other parts of Indonesia where Islam is the core religion. Hotels are often much busier as a result so anyone planning on attending the celebrations should search online to book places."
