HIGHLY ANTICIPATED BOOK BREAKS NEW GROUND INTO THE
RELATIONSHIPS OF BLACK DAUGHTERS AND THEIR FATHERS

My Soul to His Spirit: Soulful Expressions from Black Daughters to
Their Fathers gives voice to the plethora of emotional layers of the
father-daughter relationships within the black family.

Chicago, IL - The newly released book My Soul to His Spirit is breaking new ground by becoming one of the first books to give voice to the sentiments of love, pain, disappointment, fulfillment, betrayal, and confusion for a diverse group of black women as they chronicle a journey of healing and redemptive love towards their fathers.

This book is overflowing with enlightening collections of essays, poems, and epistles from 63 black women from all over the United States, who intelligently and unreservedly, express the array of experiences and heartfelt emotions that define all facets of their unique father-daughter bond. Many scholars are singing the praises of this newest book, including Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson, nationally syndicated columnist and author of Black Fatherhood: The Guide to Male Parenting, who says "My Soul to His Spirit is a MUST READ for anyone who wants to know and understand the towering role that fathers play in bringing girls to women."

The editor, Melda Beaty, is a distinguished educator of writing and African-American literature. Her writings deal with the African-American experience and women’s issues. Melda was inspired to write a letter to her father some time ago. "The letter was an attempt at forgiveness for a relationship that was plagued by emotional neglect." She never mailed the letter. Nine years later, she found a way to share her letter/sentiments, while exploring the various types of relationships that exist for black women and their fathers, but more importantly, giving stage to the voice of the black daughter.

My Soul to His Spirit offers black women a safe haven to speak freely, creatively, and candidly about our relationships with our fathers. This book will help black women understand the nature of relationships they have with all men in their lives and how those relationships ultimately affect the family. It will also enlighten black men on the emotional and psychological impact they have on their daughter’s lives. This book will stir dialogue in the black community so that the strengthening and healing of the black family may begin and continue.
