The best surfers from France and countries worldwide will be competing at the Biarritz Surfing Festival where contests will run in many different surfing styles such as short boards and body boarding. The long board competition is particularly famous and visitors can attend to see who’s crowned champion when the festival runs between 10th and 12th July 2011.

There’s plenty to keep people entertained during the day and night with pop concerts, dance shows and a taste of Hawaii as artists perform traditional ceremonies from the home of surfing. Lessons will also run with surfing legends teaching the art of carving up the waves or how to master certain sea craft. Examples are Tahitian pirogues and ways to negotiate the boats through waves along with canoes and wind surfing equipment.

The festival will carry a theme based around recycling to encourage people to be more responsible and reduce waste that can be used again. At night a surf show will run and parties are hosted at bars and clubs along the shore of the Basque Coast. Spectators are expected to be in the region of 150,000 so for people needing a Biarritz hotel availability is likely to be more restricted at this time.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: "Attendees will need to book hotels way ahead of schedule to be guaranteed of finding rooms at locations closest to the beach."
