Nguyen Trung Truc Commemoration Day sees Vietnamese nationals from all over the country and also tourists travelling around Southeast Asia head to the isalnd of Phu Quoc to enjoy the festivities.

The holiday lasts for 3 whole days in the summer, from 26th to 28th of August. The holiday is based on and around the heroics of Nguyen Trung Truc who was the Vietnam militia's founder and leader in the fight back against the occupying forces of France in the 1850s.

Throughout the summer Phu Quoc typically enjoys an influx of visitors as tourists and travellers from throughout Vietnam and beyond look to enjoy the island's beaches and warm welcome from locals. This can mean that getting a Phu Quoc hotel at a value for money price is more difficult than usual.

The format of the festival is lots of music and dance as well as street theatre which tells the Nguyen Trung Truc story. Visitors are also able to practice local art techniques and learn all about local Vietnamese culture.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at comments: "This is a really fun national holiday to take part in and we know from the past that many people like to experience it on the island of Phu Quoc. Getting a hotel room on Phu Quoc around the time of the festival could be difficult so we advise booking online well before arriving to be sure of a good deal."
