Expanded design and manufacturing services showcase at DSEi 2007

Electronics manufacturing services specialist Plexus is using its participation in this year's DSEi to underline its position as a global supplier to the defence and aerospace industries, with expanded facilities in the UK, Europe and world-wide. Recent enlargement of its European Design Centre in Scotland will enable the company to support a growing family of customers in UK and throughout Europe.

The new design centre, which opened in May 2007, is twice the size of the previous space and will provide the platform to more than double its team in Livingston to 31 engineers over the next two years.

Facilities in the UK provide not only a local customer interface, but also access to Plexus Corp's global design and manufacturing capabilities. In addition to the engineering team in Livingston, Plexus’ customers have access to a global team of 300 engineers across five design centres in Europe, North America and Asia. A new 364,000sq ft (34000sq m) manufacturing plant in Malaysia began operations in February.

Such growth emphasises the commitment to long-term partnerships with customers and suppliers, which has fostered successful relationships with many leading players including General Dynamics, Honeywell, BAe Systems, GE Security and Rockwell Collins.

The Product Realization Process, utilised by Plexus, provides these customers with a framework encompassing every stage of a product, from concept through development and production, to end of life service, offering customers a time proven, structured, product development and manufacturing methodology. Its goal is to maximise customer satisfaction by ensuring optimal time-to-market and -revenue, whilst minimising total cost through continuous improvement programmes, lean manufacturing practices and six-sigma quality assurance.
