Charlie McCann, the resident tipster at Betdirect, has been dispensing free advice for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, due to be held at Ascot towards the end of July 2007.

Betdirect is one of the UK's most successful online betting and telephone bookmakers and McCann has been an important part of their horse racing team for the last two years. His latest set of advice for punters keen to bet on the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot puts Salisbury-winner Sakhee's Secret at odds of 12/1, although Amadeus Wolf and Asset are also pitted as potential winners.

McCann has also highlighted the past performance at the Kings Stands Stakes of Miss Andretti, an Australian sprinter, stating that in his opinion, "she is overlooked at what is likely to be prohibitive odds."

He further commented, "It is possible that the Australian sprinters are just a different class to Amadeus Wolf, Asset, Sakhee's Secret et al and that the July Cup will be another Aussie whitewash but, granted fast ground, I feel Sakhee's Secret represents value at current odds of 12/1."

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes was first run in 1951, at the time of the Festival of Britain. Since this time, the race has taken place every year at the Ascot racetrack, with the exception of 2005, when proceedings were moved to Newbury due to refurbishments to the Royal track. The race has traditionally been run over a distance of a mile and a half at Ascot and is the mid-season middle distance championship race for three-year old and older horses. According to McCann, the previous 56 runnings of the race have seen the three-year olds triumph on 27 occasions, the last of which was the Aga Khan's Alamshar in 2003.

A former cricket player, McCann represented Lancashire at all levels to under-25 cricket, and also played in the National League basketball team for Liverpool. He still holds the League record for the most points scored in a game (72).
