P-OLED microdisplay specialist MicroEmissive Displays (MED) is ramping-up its European sales and marketing efforts, with the appointment of Silicon Design, the new rep/stockist arm of the pan-European Spectrum Electronics Group. Operating from offices throughout Europe, Silicon Design will market MED’s industry-leading P-OLED microdisplay technology and eyescreen(TM) products locally, for applications including portable head mounted displays and electronic viewfinders.

Polymer organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED) technology gives eyescreen(TM) the ideal combination of superb colour moving video images with ultra-low power consumption. Innovative design of the eyescreen(TM), with its integrated driver ICs and its digital interface, offers a fast, robust design-in solution for smaller, lighter-weight, stylish products of the future, all for a size comparable with the pupil of the human eye.

Bill Miller, MED's chief executive, said: "The time is right for us to complement our expansion in manufacturing capacity with a sales and marketing thrust. We are poised to become a leading player, having secured the resources we need to achieve volume production at our facility in Dresden, and we have already won contracts worth in excess of $10m. With the appointment of Silicon Design we are set to expand sales in our target markets with a proven partner, chosen for its knowledge, support and customer relationships."

Headquartered in the UK, and with offices throughout Europe, Silicon Design, a member of The Spectrum Electronics Group Ltd. will spearhead MED's drive to penetrate European markets. According to Nigel Watts, managing director of Spectrum Electronics Group, "Silicon Design was specifically founded to service the sales, marketing and operational requirements of emerging companies such as MicroEmissive Displays. MED’s eyescreen(TM) technology has the potential to revolutionise mobile video applications, but it will take a very particular portfolio of commercial and technical value added services if this potential is to be fully realised in Europe. As can be judged from the slogan "From the Seed to the Harvest" we structured Silicon Design to provide them all." The Silicon Design team has lost no time in leveraging the customer and market IP amassed by the Spectrum Group in its 14 year history on MED’s behalf: "We’ve already seen a lot of interest in the eyescreen(TM) product range from customers designing next generation hand-held video games; mobile TV; web enabled mobile phones and video and still cameras," he said.

About MicroEmissive Displays
MicroEmissive Displays (MED - AIM, London Stock Exchange) is a leader in polymer organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) microdisplay technology. The company was founded in 1999 and has developed a unique emissive microdisplay technology by using a P-OLED layer on a CMOS substrate. In late 2004, MicroEmissive Displays floated on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange (AIM) following a fourth successful funding round, which raised £15.7 M. Funding has been used for proof of principle, technology development and establishing pre-production facilities in Edinburgh, culminating in the first product release and commercial shipments of MicroEmissive Displays’ eyescreen(TM) microdisplays in December 2005.

MicroEmissive Displays has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 registration for the research, design, development and marketing of digital microdisplay solutions and is working towards full accreditation in 2007. MicroEmissive Displays is headquartered at the Scottish Microelectronics Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland and employs 58 people; its manufacturing plant is in Dresden, Germany. The company also has sales representatives and applications support located in Asia, the USA and Europe.

About eyescreen(TM)
MicroEmissive Displays’ eyescreen(TM) products are the world’s only polymer organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) microdisplays. The full colour eyescreen(TM) combines superb TV quality moving video images that are free from flicker, with ultra-low power consumption, enabling greatly extended battery life for the consumer. This enhancement in battery usage time made possible by the eyescreen(TM) will play a vital role in the widespread adoption of portable head-sets for personal TV and video viewing in the consumer marketplace. The innovative design of the eyescreen(TM), with its integrated driver ICs and its digital interface, offers product design engineers a fast, robust design-in solution for smaller, lighter-weight, stylish products of the future, all for a size comparable with the pupil of the human eye.
