Speed Classic Airs On The Poker Channel

Published: Wed Sep 28 2005 has joined forces with The Poker Channel to sponsor The Speed Classic, which forms part of the World Speed Poker Open, a televised tournament with a prize pool of over £144,000.

Mark O’Donnell, a spokesman for, explained, "Speed Poker is a much faster version of the standard Texas holdem and players get just fifteen seconds to decide their next move. This results in faster poker game with more hands per hour, all of which makes the games more tense and exciting, especially for the viewers."

The winner of the Speed Classic will go through to the semi-finals, with the top three finishers in each semi-final then going straight to the final, to play off for a first prize of £50,000.

The Speed Classic features a field of world renowned poker personalities including Roland DeWolfe (England) – winner of the 2005 WPT Grand Prix De Paris, Tiffany Williamson (USA) – the highest placed female in the 2005 World Series of Poker, Mikael Thuritz (Sweden) – reigning World Speed Poker Champion, Ashley Alterman (England) – online qualifier and poker journalist, Dominik Kofert (Germany) - online qualifier and David Penly (England) - online qualifier and poker pro.
