The championships will see athletes competing across three categories in the junior, novice and senior sectors, in both the men’s and ladies singles disciplines. There will also be heats for pairs and each category attracts the continent’s finest talents as Asia currently has some of the best in world.

The senior category is for Olympic standard skaters who will be taking to the ice to perform skilled footwork, jumps and spins to try and impress the judges. Points are to be awarded using the International Skating Union (ISU) judging criteria where the judges will be evaluating components such as skating skills, choreography and the execution of the performance.

In the both the pairs and singles competitions the entrants have to carry out two routines consisting of a short and a long program. The short program will see skaters having to complete a series of set spins, jumps and steps and during the long program the choice of moves is more open for the skater to decide.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: "The event is set to run from 24th to 28th August in the city and as an international event Dongguan hotels will be hard to come by. Early reservations will be needed by spectators planning on staying around the stadium and the easiest way to do this will be online."
