DDH Software recently launched a new version of its HanDBase relational database application for Symbian Series 60 handsets, such as the popular smartphones by Nokia, Panasonic, Sendo and Siemens. The Series 60 version of HanDBase comes with a desktop version that enables users to create and manage their information before transferring the data to their mobile devices for anytime/anywhere access and data entry. Since its launch, HanDBase for Series 60 has been praised as the first true database program for Series 60 devices, including a review by AllAboutSymbian in which HanDBase is "highly recommended."

Reviewer Steve Litchfield of AllAboutSymbian hailed HanDBase as "a great opportunity for all Series 60 owners to ramp up (again) the number of things we call our phones to do." He appreciated its cross-platform nature, enabling users to share HanDBase database files with users of other platforms, such as Palm OS or Windows Mobile.

"In the real world, this means that users of all persuasions can add to and use the ever-growing (over 2000) gallery of databases on their web site," said Mr. Litchfield.

He also called the functionality of HanDBase tremendous. "Instantaneous searching, powerful sort and filtering options, categorized databases, data encryption (both manual and automatic) and up to 100 fields and 65,000 records per database make this a tool for both personal users and business professionals."

The new HanDBase for Series 60 has many people asking for a version for Symbian OS UIQ-based devices. In an interview with SymbianOne.com, DDH Software founder and president David Haupert discussed the decision to begin with Series 60 before moving toward a version for UIQ devices.

"While UIQ has momentum, Nokia's projection of what they were planning to do with their devices made us think; if we could get in on the ground floor with Nokia we would have a much better launching platform for the future," said Mr. Haupert. "We already have a UIQ version in development and expect to release it by the end of the year."
