Top-of-the-range MID analyser offers comprehensive utility monitoring & control

Carlo Gavazzi has extended its family of industrial / domestic energy meters with a high performing model: the EM26-96. This new 1-2-3 Phase energy analyser features a built-in configuration joystick and LCD data display: it is particularly suitable for import and export energy metering, and for cost allocation applications, as well as many more.

The meter is compliant to the newly introduced Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) and is designated Class 1 to European standards EN62053-21, Class B to EN50470-3 and Class 2 according to EN62053-23.

A comprehensive range of system and single-phase variable measurements is provided along with utility metering (energy, hot/cold water, gas, remote heating), and load monitoring with harmonic analysis up to the 15th harmonic. Accuracy is ±0.5% RDG (current/voltage); results are displayed with a 4 digit variables readout, 7+1 digit for the energy analyser and a 6+2 digit hour counter.

The large, clear LCD display features dual-colour backlight, which automatically changes colour to provide a visual alert in case of alarm conditions.

Cost allocation, cost splitting, variable and multi tariff controls are facilitated by the unit's three digital outputs, whilst an additional RS485 communication port provides compatibility with MODBUS-RTU and iFIX SCADA systems. A joystick control allows users to quickly scroll through the readout, and there is a rotary selector to switch between alternative measurement pages.

Housed in a compact 96 x 96 x 63 mm module, the unit requires just 46mm clearance behind the front panel. Three digital inputs provide functions including tariff selection, DMD synchronisation or gas/water (hot-cold) and remote heating metering.

As with the recently-introduced EM24-DIN energy meter, tamper-proofing is via a sealing point on the front selector switch to lock out the programming function, this is on top of Password protection. This physical seal stops access to the meter's application-oriented programming structure, which enables programmers to quickly set up the meter by choosing between programmes.
