San Francisco- Halloween is a fun time for masks, colorful costumes, and pretending for a short time we are someone else by setting aside our every day anxieties. But the author of a recent book, "The Masks We Wear and How to Live Without Them," claims many of us wear masks every day as a crutch. Marla Sloane, Ph.D., a successful author and speaker, San Francisco, CA., in her recent book, writes that each of us have an exclusive set of experiences that is unique to each individual. Some of the reactions to those experiences are rejection, betrayal, and pain.

"I discovered," Dr. Sloane writes, "that how we react to this pain is the reason that we develop a protective mask, and we wear this mask, or in many cases a set of masks, to protect ourselves so we can escape the pain and rejection we feel." Her 112-page book contains 13 chapters designed to free the reader from the masks that inhibit their purpose. "We all have a purpose to fulfill on this earth and we cannot fully contribute our gifts and talents if we are filled with self-doubt and insecurities," according to Dr. Sloane.

Dr. Sloane, who is available for speaking and consultations, has an extensive background in Psychology and Clinical Hypnotherapy. She has written numerous articles about releasing stress, how to find your authentic self, and the importance of living in your truth. She has a Ph.D. in Psychology, and also is the author of a booklet, "101 Easy Ways to Reduce the Stress in Your Life," She has produced three guided meditation CDs that are distributed worldwide. Dr. Sloane is a sought after therapist providing phone consultations by appointment. Soon to be released is another of her publications, "Healing Your Heart," a daring book dealing with the difficult subject of death. It includes the seven steps of grieving as an aid for anyone going through the grieving process.

Among her lectures nationwide was speaking at the world renowned Chopra Center for Well Being in California. She also has an advice column called "Dr. Marla Says…" which is an Internet column giving answers to her reader's questions.
