DirectRooms.com – Attend Grand fireworks display commemorates the burning of Heidelberg castle in Se

The Castle Illuminations show is an epic display of colour and light and the ruins are bathed in a shimmering red light to make the castle appear as though it’s on fire. The yearly tradition remembers the time when the French, under General Ezechiel de Melac, virtually brought the city to the ground and the castle with it. However the city survived and the celebrations are a symbol of the determination of the people to carry on and rebuild.

After the faux fire display the sky over the castle will be filled with hundreds of fireworks and there are a number of good positions to catch the entertainment. Visitors staying in hotels in Heidelberg near the river either can head down to the Neckarstaden, Ziegelhauser Landstrasse or Neuenheimer Landstrasse for some of the best views.

Motorists are warned that traffic is redirected near routes by the Old Bridge from 21:00 as this is where the fireworks are lit from. The fireworks are also complemented by a concert held at the Heiliggeistkirche from 18:15 and the main displays start from 22:15 on 3rd September 2011.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "Thousands of people attend the evening and getting into hotels is much more difficult over this time. Bookings should be made online months in advance to get the best rooms."
