The theme of this year’s festival is to commemorate the anniversaries of Gustav Mahler and Franz Liszt. The chamber music of Beethoven will also be celebrated and the festival organisers have commissioned a special piece of work by the German composer Matthias Pintscher in honour of Beethoven. Another area of musical development that the 2011 Festival will honour is the work of the Jewish composers of the Holocaust, those whose lives were so tragically cut short and therefore deprived the world of their talent.

The 2011 JICMF has invited many renowned artists to perform, these include Elena Bashkirova, Emmanuel Pahud and Robert Holl. Friday September 9th will provide entertainment of a lighter nature with a special cabaret performance by Steve Ross. His musical repertoire will consist of the works of Gershwin, Coward, Berlin and Cole Porter.

Jerusalem is a busy city and demand for this famous festival is always high, there are many Jerusalem hotels from which to choose which will suit all budgets and tastes. Tickets for the festival start from 1820 NIS for the whole two weeks, to 980 NIS for one week, and 150 NIS for a day ticket. Senior citizens can get reduced price tickets starting from 120 NIS for a single ticket.
