Homeless Great Danes Need Your Help Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Seeks Loving Foster Homes

The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. (MAGDRL) is looking for caring, responsible Great Dane lovers to join our foster team by opening their hearts homes and their to a rescued Great Dane. Because these "gentle giants" usually do not thrive in a kennel environment, our foster system provides a viable and nurturing alternative. This system allows volunteers to evaluate the habits and behaviors of our orphans within a loving home environment. Since volunteers get to know each foster dog "up close and personal," they are able to offer a potential adopter detailed information about the dog, which in turn, greatly helps the volunteer and MAGDRL make a better match between the dog and their permanent adoptive family.

It is important for potential volunteer "foster parents" to fully consider their ability to spend time with the foster dog and provide all the exercise, love, and attention it will need, regardless of however long it stays with them. Great Danes have an exceptionally keen need of loving human companionship and care, and they respond to this care with a combination of warmth, playfulness and loving loyalty.

The importance of familiarizing an adoptive family with what constitutes responsible Dane ownership cannot be overemphasized . Sadly, many "orphans" are the result of some owners originally wanting a Dane just as a watch dog or status symbol. When the Dane "fails" to achieve this perceived and misplaced goal, the owner immediately wants to get rid of it. Another reason owners frequently surrender Great Danes is their failure to realize just how big some Dane puppies get when they are full-grown.
Needless to say, the role of "foster parent" is critical to the Dane in need. By educating prospective adoptive families about the personality and needs of their particular "orphan", the "foster parent" greatly increases their probability of finding it a permanent and loving home.

If you would like to be considered as a foster home or would like to know more about our fostering program, please call (410) 945-5454 to request an application or go to our website at: www.magdrl.org

MAGDRL volunteers educate the public and potential owners about caring for this wonderful breed through various community efforts. They are a DC corporation and have a charitable tax-exemption under code 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. MAGDRL is staffed completely by volunteers. Therefore, 100% of the funds donated go to helping MAGDRL’s Great Danes.
