DirectRooms.com – Tourists Advised that Zermatt Embassy Closes for Columbus Day

10th October marks Columbus Day, the date which celebrates the arrival of explorer Christopher Columbus in the Americas, and any US citizens travelling or staying in Zermatt on that day need to know about local arrangements. Many US natives rely on their consular and embassy services when travelling, but on Columbus Day the Embassy of Switzerland will be closed all day.

US embassies typically close on all public holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday and Independence Day, so it is wise to be aware of them in advance. On Columbus Day this year tourists and travellers staying in Zermatt city centre hotels should know that any passport or travel problems they might have cannot be addressed until the following day.

Zermatt does offer other tourist advice and information services including a local Tourist Information office in the city centre.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head of DirectRooms.com comments, "It is always a good idea to be pre-briefed on what days your country's consulates and embassies close, and this October US citizens should be aware of Columbus Day when travelling. There is of course plenty to do in Zermatt to keep yourself otherwise occupied so one day of closure shouldn't upset people too much!"
