LONDON, England, October 20, 2005 – Endeca, the leading provider of Guided Navigation®, search and analysis solutions this week announced from Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2005 that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the leaders quadrant of the 2005 Information Access Technology Magic Quadrant report .

According to Gartner, Inc., Leaders are vendors that are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. Previously known as the Enterprise Search Magic Quadrant, Gartner renamed the report and the category to Information Access Technology this year.

In the report, Gartner cites the following reasons for renaming the report and the category: "Unfortunately, the term is not as recognizable or quickly conveyed as "search." Yet, the specific capabilities an information access technology vendor provides must include search to solve more than the most specific problems. (Gartner) now consider(s) all enterprise search vendors to be information access technology vendors; however, those who only offer search capabilities (frequently called "keyword search") are not fully equipped and no longer can be realistically considered candidates for leadership or visionary status."

The report goes on to state: "(Gartner) changed the name because the problems that information access technology solves extend beyond the keyword search solution. Increasingly, end users assume that the Google.com experience can be translated inside enterprises or in larger domains, including some enterprise content and some outside content. The reality is that finding information, and acting on it intelligently, demands increasingly sophisticated and innovative strategies. This has been the case for at least four years. As a result, the terminology change supports the reality."

"We are very pleased that Endeca is in the Leader quadrant of Gartner’s 2005 Magic Quadrant report for Information Access Technology," said Steve Papa, founder and chairman of Endeca. "As Gartner outlines and states in the report, the new definition of this market reflects a reality in both technological innovation and market adoption over the past few years. The fact is that human searching behavior is more complex than simple search. The future of this market belongs to companies with the vision and technology to support all the ways people find information and analyze what they’ve found."
