Delphi Academy of San Francisco Bay in Santa Clara hosted its annual Parent Pot Luck Dinner on October 8th to acknowledge all of the parent support and help during the previous school year and to enlist even greater support this year. Parents thoroughly enjoyed the variety of ethnic foods and the chance to meet and socialize with each other.

Parents Majed and Yara Fakhouri were presented with a fruit basket for their tremendous help to the school by Delphi Academy’s Headmistress, Nancy Hawkins. The Fakhouri’s donations and hard work in getting a front yard area cleared, landscaped and fencing installed for a new playground for the Kindergartners and First Graders was acknowledged by all.

Parents were also invited to take a more active role in their children’s education by signing up for Delphi Academy activities. The most popular activities including helping to present cultural celebrations and events, playground installation, helping with class field trips, community service projects and using computer expertise for class newsletters and the student-produced Delphi Academy yearbook.

One Delphi Academy parent, Subha Dhesikan, was pleased to sign up to help with community service projects and said, "Community service is a wonderful thing as it results in a more interactive, compassionate and a strong society. By being involved in community service, our students develop various skills such as empathy, teamwork, problem solving and sharing. It demonstrates to them that they have the power and the capacity, no matter how young they are, to make a difference and cause a positive change." Mrs. Dhesikan herself is also involved in community service work.

Parents signed up for activities to be involved with their children’s education and continued to enjoy the evening, ending with many delicious desserts.
