At Delphi Academy of San Diego, located in La Jolla, CA, the students decided to take matters into their own hands and spent the day baking, promoting and selling cookies to raise funds for children affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Delphi Academy students raised hundreds of dollars at the bake sale and used the funds to purchase and send backpacks and school supplies to children affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

"All their notebooks got washed away and the kids were sitting there with nothing so we wanted to help them," Shaela, a 4th grader, said.

Another Delphi Academy 4th grader, Ariane, had this to say, "Our Moral Code class taught us about us treating others the way you would want to be treated, and I would want someone to help me if that happened to me!"

Ariane’s favorite part was "when we found out that we had made $200 and we went shopping to fill up the backpacks for the Katrina fund."

Once the students had collected up all of the supplies, a generous donation from a Delphi Academy grandfather paid for all of the shipping to send the backpacks and supplies to those in need.

Delphi Academy of San Diego is an independent, coeducational and non-sectarian day school offering regular school year and summer programs for kindergarten through sixth grade students. It is licensed to use Applied Scholastics(TM) educational services (http://www.AppliedScholastics.Org).
