Commonwealth Conference should boost Malta’s profile…

Published: Mon Oct 31 2005

The forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government conference is a major opportunity for Malta to boost awareness of travel and investment opportunities says a UK based Company that helps clients to buy property on the island.

A spokesman for said that Malta remains a popular destination for UK residents in particular - and there was a growing interest from younger couples considering Malta as a safe place to buy property and bring up children. The Company believes that the conference provides a major opportunity to further raise the profile of the island.

Ray Woods, the owner of the maltabuyproperty said,
'Malta is locked in a battle with many other areas of the World to compete for tourists and investment funds. The Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in November is a great potential opportunity to showcase this safe and friendly island. The attendance of the Queen and the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair provides a great opportunity for media coverage in the UK and elsewhere.

The challenge for the Malta Tourist Authority is to capitalize on this free coverage, get more people to visit the island, and to increase investment in property and in commerce and industry.

Malta has many attractions for outsiders, particularly those in the UK and these need to be marketed very positively.

For those who visit Malta, it is seen as a relatively safe and stress free location. Increasing competition on air routes will also bear fruit.

With English as a joint first language in Malta, potential clients of ours find it easier to fit in with the very friendly local Maltese population.’
